Active Listening Skills

Active listening is showing genuine interest in what somebody else is showing.

The following are examples of how to show that you are actively listening:

Body Language

- Eye contact

- Ignore all distractions

Clarifying

- Ask for additional information to fully understand what he/she is talking about

- Add to the story

Summarizing

- After the conversation is done, summarize what he/she said in a very informal way

- Restate any funny parts of the story
